Pondicherry: Reservation for Christians in education and employment

Chennai (Christian Today) - Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy promised to soon bring in reservation for Christians and Muslims in education and employment upon the recommendation of the State Backward Classes commission made available, Christian Today learned.
"The announcement on reservation would be made in the next few days after the recommendation of the Commission," said the Chief Minister, to a PMK delegation, which called on him to discuss the issue.
During a meeting, the delegation led by the Parliamentary party leader M Ramados and party unit president G K, presented a two page memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The delegation demanded a special session of the assembly to be convened to bring in a Bill to assign quota to the minorities.
The memorandum copy, which was also distributed to the media, mentioned that the Union Territory had a big sum of minorities.
Apart from the reservation for minorities, the memorandum referred to the steps the other States in the southern region had taken to improve, the well being of the minorities, specially the ordinance TN government enforced
Christians and Muslims constitute 13.2 percent of the total population of the Union Territory. In September 2006, the territory changed its official name from Pondicherry to the vernacular original Puducherry, which means "New village" in the Tamil language.
